The Brookfield Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell 53-42 to Newton Falls. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Brookfield of the 57-33 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Brookfield lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matteo Fortuna. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Fortuna is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Judah Dejoy, who scored seven points.
It was another big night for Jabriel Rufai, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds for Newton Falls. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Clonch, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Brookfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Newton Falls, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brookfield will take on Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Garfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday. As for Newton Falls, they will head out on the road to square off against Champion at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton Falls is facing Champion at the right time seeing as Champion is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
