Baseball Recap: Madawaska Sets Scoring Season-High Against Washburn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madawaska). Everything went their way against the Washburn Beavers on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-10 victory. This was a revenge game for the Owls: when they faced off against the Beavers last Thursday, they had to take a 10-4 defeat.

Isaac Beaulieu was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Madawaska is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise. Beaulieu was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Matt Ayotte and Alex Querze did most of the damage at the plate: Ayotte got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs, while Querze got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ayotte has become a key player for Madawaska: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ashton Guerrette, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Madawaska and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Washburn, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madawaska will head out to face off against Hodgdon at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Owls' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Washburn, they will venture away from home to take on Katahdin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
