Homewood is a perfect 6-0 against Parker since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Homewood Patriots will host the Parker Thundering Herd at 5:30 p.m. Homewood has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Parker will come in with five straight victories.
Homewood came into this matchup off a tough 12-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of John Carroll Catholic by a score of 6-4 on Thursday.
Anne Hope Howell was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Kloeanne Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season. Madison Letson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Parker got the win against Central on Saturday by a conclusive 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Thundering Herd, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Leah Ray was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chelsea Ware, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamila Dabney, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Parker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .562 or higher in four consecutive games.
Homewood's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Parker, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Homewood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Parker struggles in that department as they've averaged .613. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Homewood's way against Parker in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Homewood made off with a 20-2 victory. Does Homewood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Parker turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
