The Anderson Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the Lawrence Central Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Anderson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Anderson needed a bit of extra time to put away Richmond. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Red Devils. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.
Branson Hemme was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Hemme was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cole Roberts and Kadyn Kendall did most of the damage at the plate: Roberts got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Kendall got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave Kendall a new career-high in hits (three). Steven Reyes was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.
Anderson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richmond only posted an OBP of .289.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Lawrence Central's offense. They fell just short of Ben Davis by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bears have suffered against the Giants since April 20, 2022.
Paul Carnes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lawrence Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Toussaint, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double marked the first that Toussaint has hit this season.
The victory got Anderson back to even at 4-4. As for Lawrence Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Anderson skirted past Lawrence Central 8-7 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
