Danville is a perfect 9-0 against Thomas Nelson since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Admirals will host the Generals at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Danville came out on top against Garrard County on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Admirals were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Golden Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Admirals have posted against the Golden Lions since April 27, 2022.
Fox Spears was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Spears was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Danville let Wyatt Gale and KJ Dismeaux run wild. Gale went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Dismeaux went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits Gale has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Thomas Nelson won against Caverna on Monday with 20 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Generals blew past Cornerstone Christian Academy 20-1. Winning may never get old, but the Generals sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Like Danville, Thomas Nelson also got a great game from a two-way player: Jacob Parsley. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Parsley was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Cade Benningfield was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cole Girdley, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Thomas Nelson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Thomas Nelson's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Danville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-5.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Danville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like Thomas Nelson struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Danville took their victory against Thomas Nelson in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Admirals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Generals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
