Baseball Recap: Sanford Comes Up Short

Hoehne hit Sanford with a four-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs fell just short of the Farmers by a score of 7-6. The Mustangs' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Trason Gartrell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Sanford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Roman Edgar was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. Colton Reynolds was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Sanford now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Hoehne, their victory bumped their record up to 6-16.

Looking ahead, Sanford will face off against Monte Vista at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Hoehne, they will square off against Rocky Ford at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Farmers are facing the Meloneers at the right time seeing as the Meloneers are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
