South Gate is 1-9 against Legacy since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Rams will be playing at home against the Tigers at 2:15 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Last Friday, South Gate made easy work of Bell and carried off a 14-5 victory. With that win, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Barbara Siero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, Veronica Esparza was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Jimenez, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and four runs.
South Gate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Legacy hadn't done well against Norwalk recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 14-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Katelen Pedroza made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Legacy let Alissa Andon and Priscilla Medina run wild. Andon went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Medina went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Isabella Medina was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
South Gate pushed their record up to 8-13 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Legacy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Gate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Legacy struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Gate might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Legacy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
