The Mineral Ridge Rams will head out to face off against the Springfield Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Mineral Ridge will be strutting in after a win while Springfield will be coming in after a loss.
On Wednesday, Mineral Ridge made easy work of McKinley and carried off a 12-2 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Alyssa Ylonen made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Ylonen was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Maddie Gerberry was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sullivan Sandy, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mineral Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Springfield's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Poland Seminary by a score of 10-8. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Tigers, who until this game were averaging 3.5 runs allowed.
Like Mineral Ridge, Springfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooklyn Chachko. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Chachko was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Chachko wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kensley Schrode, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kaylee Lanterman also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Mineral Ridge pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mineral Ridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mineral Ridge got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Springfield by a conclusive 16-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
