Softball Game Preview: Sunnyslope Vikings vs. Apollo Hawks

Sunnyslope is 9-1 against Apollo since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Sunnyslope will be playing at home against Apollo at 3:45 p.m. Sunnyslope has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sunnyslope easily dispatched Blue Ridge on Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Sunnyslope fell just short of Willow Canyon by a score of 11-9 on Monday. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Sophia Pi?a and Peyton Udall stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pi?a scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Udall scored three runs while going 1-for-5. Those three runs gave Udall a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Hyde, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Apollo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 18-11 to West Point. Even though they lost, the Hawks' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.8 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Taylor Veloz led a balanced group of hitters, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Michelle Ngchar, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Apollo's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Sunnyslope, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Sunnyslope took their victory against Apollo in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 6-0. Does Sunnyslope have another victory up their sleeve, or will Apollo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
