Last Friday, Pleasant Grove strolled past Liberty-Eylau with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. Given Pleasant Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Liberty-Eylau is ranked 616th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 34 points the game before, North Lamar were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They were beaten by Gilmer 49-12. North Lamar was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-6.
Although North Lamar took the loss, they still got scores from Anthony Gordon and Blake Hildreth.
Even if they lost, North Lamar's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Gilmer's QB won't forget Jackson Hoskins anytime soon given Hoskins sacked him five times.
Pleasant Grove's win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points per game. As for North Lamar, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Everything came up roses for Pleasant Grove against North Lamar in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 55-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pleasant Grove since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
