Basketball Game Preview: Lucas Cubs vs. Crestline Bulldogs

The Lucas Cubs will venture away from home to take on the Crestline Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lucas has three straight victories, Crestline has 13 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Lucas will head into Wednesday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 25-point drubbing they dealt Hillsdale on Wednesday. Lucas blew past Hillsdale 57-32.

Lucas' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Katie Griffey, who went 10 for 17 en route to 24 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals, and Riley Trumpower, who almost dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten boards, and nine steals. Trumpower's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Brown, who posted four points along with ten rebounds and seven steals.

Lucas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 45-9, which was the final score in Crestline's tilt against Mt. Gilead on Wednesday.

Lucas has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Crestline, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.

Everything came up roses for Lucas against Crestline in their previous matchup back in January, as the team secured a 53-19 win. In that contest, Lucas amassed a halftime lead of 41-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
