The West Nassau Warriors lost against the Baker County Wildcats on January 5th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. West Nassau was beaten by the Wildcats 70-38. While losing is never fun, West Nassau can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 518th, while the Wildcats are ranked 239th).
West Nassau's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morgan Middlebrooks, who scored 12 points. Tru Armstrong was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Baker County was led to victory by Zaniah Blake and Yamise Haygood. Blake dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, while Haygood dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Blake has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Strachan, who scored eight points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for West Nassau and nudges their season record down to 5-13. As for Baker County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Nassau will take on the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Baker County, they will play host again and welcome the Indians, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keystone Heights is no doubt hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses.
