Basketball Game Preview: Madill Wildcats vs. Byng Pirates

Madill hasn't had much luck against Byng recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Madill Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Byng Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Madill comes in on six and Byng on three.

Byng better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Madill really get things going. Madill simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Tishomingo 52-23. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Indians are ranked 105th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Elexis Holmes, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine steals. Holmes is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Miyah Brown, who posted eight points along with seven assists and five steals.

Madill was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Byng). They took down Seminole 44-26 back in December of 2024. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Pirates with their most commanding win of the season.

Byng's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-6. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Madill, their record now sits at 8-1.

Madill ended up a good deal behind Byng in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, losing 36-18. Can Madill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
