Max Boyatt tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bryce Fitzsimmons was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Jakub Mudd was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Leesville Road hit Sanderson with a ten-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans lost 18-1 to the Pride. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Sanderson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was MAX ALVIANI, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Sanderson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
Sanderson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cardinal Gibbons has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. It's a different story for Sanderson, though, as they've only averaged .295. Will they be able to contain Cardinal Gibbons' hitters?
Everything went Cardinal Gibbons' way against Sanderson in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Cardinal Gibbons made off with an 18-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
