The First Baptist Academy Lions fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Canterbury Cougars on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 58-50 to the Cougars. First Baptist Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Canterbury apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
First Baptist Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Zara Leilani Stewart and Ella Johnson. Leilani Stewart scored 23 points, while Johnson scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season.
First Baptist Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Canterbury, their win bumped their record up to 10-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. First Baptist Academy will take on Barron Collier at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Barron Collier focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. As for Canterbury, they will play host again and welcome Ida Baker, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Ida Baker is ranked 248th, while Canterbury is ranked 225th).
