The City View Mustangs will challenge the Henrietta Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, City View ended up a good deal behind Jacksboro and lost 49-34. The Mustangs gained 66 more yards on the day, but it was the Tigers that made the best use of them.
Despite the defeat, City View got top-tier performance from Malachi Williams, who threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score. Brian Collier was Williams' top target, picking up 19 receiving yards and one TD, while also rushing for 80 yards.
Even if they lost, City View's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They got some further help from Jayden Bradford: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made nine total tackles.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Henrietta). They blew past Valley View 69-0 on Friday. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Henrietta found their leader in sophomore Cruse Coleman, who rushed for 140 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries. Coleman is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 140 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaden Clark, who threw for 120 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Henrietta was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 348 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Henrietta didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Coleman and Gage McDonald.
City View's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Henrietta, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. City View has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 201 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Henrietta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 256.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for City View against Henrietta when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 47-0 win. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bearcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
