The Chico Dragons will head out on the road to take on the Nocona Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Chico has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chico came up short against Muenster on Tuesday, falling 13-3. The Dragons haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Chico saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addyson Sides, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was Sides' first of the season.
Nocona never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Alvord on Tuesday. They blew past the Bulldogs 12-6. Considering the Indians have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Reagan Phipps made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Heidi Atteberry and Skye Kirby did most of the damage at the plate: Atteberry scored two runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-5, while Kirby went 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tinley Cable, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Nocona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Chico's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Nocona, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chico has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Nocona struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
