The Riverside Pirates lost against the Covington Buccs back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Riverside fell 45-35 to the Buccs. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Riverside in their matchups with the Buccs: they've now lost six in a row.
Riverside's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Saylor, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Saylor posted two or more blocks. Avery Perk was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Riverside has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Covington, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.
Riverside will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Milton-Union presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Pirates in Ohio (the Bulldogs are ranked 227th, while the Pirates are ranked 549th). As for Covington, they will be playing at home against the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Miami East will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
