Colerain and Sycamore are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Cardinals will face off against the Aviators at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Colerain has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while Sycamore will arrive with three straight wins.
Things were looking good for Colerain after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Princeton, falling 15-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered against the Vikings since March 27, 2023.
Orlando Sanchez Tejada was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Austin Taulbee was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sycamore made easy work of Middletown on Wednesday and carried off a 13-3 victory. Considering the Aviators have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Corwin Wang tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Sycamore let Zach Branam and Cal Frischer run wild. Branam went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Frischer went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Branam has become a key player for Sycamore: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Poore, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Sycamore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Colerain's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Sycamore, their record now sits at 6-7.
Colerain skirted past Sycamore 2-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Aviators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
