Forest hasn't had much luck against Trinity Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Celtics at 6:00 p.m. Forest is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Thursday, Forest made easy work of Meadowbrook Academy and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Forest found their leader in sophomore Addison Owens, who had 20 digs and one assist. Ellie Clymer also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Forest was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Trinity Catholic faced Plant in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Celtics fell 3-1 to the Panthers. The loss continues a trend for the Celtics in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost four in a row.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Plant scored at least 18 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-18.
Forest will have to keep a close watch on Lyla Huggins and Isabella Rodriguez, a pair of players who had a big impact on Trinity Catholic's prior game. Huggins had 19 digs and five assists, while Rodriguez had 12 digs and one assist. Huggins has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last seven times she's played.
Forest's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Trinity Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Forest has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Trinity Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Forest suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Trinity Catholic when the teams last played back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Huggins, who had 18 digs and two aces. Now that the Wildcats know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
