The Castilleja Gators will venture away from home to square off against the Design Tech Dragons at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Castilleja has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Castilleja came up short against South San Francisco on Friday, falling 12-1. The Gators haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Katherine Cheng made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Meanwhile, Design Tech had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Everything went their way against the Grizzlies as they made off with a 20-8 win. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by 11 runs or more this season.
Ella Lewis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lewis was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Design Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive contests.
Design Tech's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Castilleja, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Castilleja has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Design Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Castilleja got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Design Tech by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
