Ethan Dorsey tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Connor Christiansen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Chase Nickols, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Guerin Catholic made easy work of Crawfordsville on Monday and carried off a 10-1 victory. Considering the Golden Eagles have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Guerin Catholic also got a great performance from Luke Gremelspacher as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Gremelspacher has posted since back in May.
On the hitting side, Ian Taylor and Ben Canada did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Canada went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Guerin Catholic is 8-2 when Taylor posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Carson Kail was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Guerin Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crawfordsville only posted an OBP of .241.
Cathedral's win bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Guerin Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 17-12.
Cathedral came out on top in a nail-biter against Guerin Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2017, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Irish since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
