The Whitfield Warriors are taking a road trip to face off against the Lutheran South Lancers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Whitfield had taken Lutheran down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Warriors came up short against the Cougars, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Warriors have suffered against the Cougars since May 3, 2021.
While Whitfield was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-13, 27-25, 25-20.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Lutheran South's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of O'Fallon by a score of 2-1.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Lutheran South sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 21-25, 25-11.
Whitfield will need to focus on slowing down Malachi Seying, one of several Lutheran South players who made an impact when they last played. He had 22 digs. Seying is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Krauss, who had seven digs and one block.
Lutheran South's defeat dropped their record down to 17-7-2. As for Whitfield, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10-5.
Whitfield skirted past Lutheran South 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
