The LaBrae Vikings's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 63-39 margin over Garfield. Given LaBrae's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 254th, while Garfield is ranked 678th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Ella Kuszmaul, who scored 27 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Riley Rowe was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Garfield still got an impressive performance from Mandy Cardinal, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Cardinal hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey May, who scored eight points.
LaBrae's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Garfield, they have fallen quite a ways from their 23-3 record last season and are now at 2-10.
LaBrae will be playing in front of their home fans against Bristol at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bristol is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Garfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Champion at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Champion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
