The South Bend St. Joseph Indians posted their closest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against NorthWood and snuck past 48-46. This was payback for South Bend St. Joseph, who suffered a 66-37 defeat the last time these two teams met.
South Bend St. Joseph was led to victory by Chase Konieczny and Jayce Lee. Konieczny dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Lee scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. That's the first time this season that Lee pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen White, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
South Bend St. Joseph's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7. As for NorthWood, their loss ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Bend St. Joseph will challenge Elkhart at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Elkhart is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for NorthWood, they will head out on the road to challenge Goshen at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Goshen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 200th, while NorthWood is ranked 65th).
