After a string of seven wins, the Grafton Clippers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a hard 58-39 fall against Grassfield. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Grafton has scored all season.
Taylor Ragland and Alonni Wells certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Ragland dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Wells scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals. Ragland scored a full 43.6% of Grafton's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Nathalia McIntyre was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grassfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mya Davis, who scored 14 points. Davis also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaya Fisher, who scored 11 points along with five assists and five steals.
Grafton's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-1. As for Grassfield, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Grafton will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Warhill at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Warhill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Grafton is ranked 25th). Grassfield will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Hylton at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th. Hylton has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 29.
