Basketball Recap: Tooele Comes Up Short

Tooele was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 65-50 fall against the Cottonwood Colts. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buffaloes of the 81-52 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Tooele lost, don't look at Grady Symonds. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Symonds a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Mason Heap, who went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points.

Even though they lost, Tooele smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cottonwood only pulled down three offensive rebounds.

John Rosevear continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cottonwood, going 8 of 14 on his way to 22 points and six steals. Rosevear is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Luka Cecez, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 15 points along with six blocks and five boards.

Tooele's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Cottonwood, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Tooele will head out to face off against Murray at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Murray knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Tooele likes a good challenge. As for Cottonwood, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 68-49 victory against Hillcrest on the 9th.
