The Mishawaka Marian Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Gary West Side Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The third road game was the charm for Mishawaka Marian, as they earned their first road win of the season. They took their contest on the road last Friday with ease, bagging a 65-27 win over Plymouth. That 65-27 margin sets a new team best for Mishawaka Marian this season.
Mishawaka Marian can attribute much of their success to William Owens, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, and Paxan Sullivan, who scored 17 points. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Maust, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Gary West Side strolled past Marquette Catholic with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 64-47. Given Gary West Side's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Marquette Catholic is ranked 184th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mishawaka Marian's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Gary West Side, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Mishawaka Marian didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Gary West Side in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 58-52 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mishawaka Marian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
