The Warrensburg Burgers will face off against the Salem Generals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Warrensburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Warrensburg got the win against Argyle by a conclusive 14-3. The Burgers haven't had any issues with the Scots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Louis Lang was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Warrensburg got a massive performance out of Maris Martin, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Paul Moore, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Warrensburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Salem came up short against Granville on Wednesday and fell 8-5. The Generals have struggled against the Golden Horde recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Stephen Yakubec was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Quinten Rushinski also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Salem's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-3. As for Warrensburg, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Warrensburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Salem struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Warrensburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Salem in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Burgers repeat their success, or do the Generals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
