The Whitley County Colonels waltzed into their matchup Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 80-48 win over Belfry. Considering Whitley County has won five matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Belfry lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being David Michael Hagy, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Hagy also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Makaden Maynard, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Whitley County's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Belfry, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whitley County will finish 2023 at home by hosting South-Doyle at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Belfry will finish 2023 at home by hosting Holmes at 8:05 p.m. on Thursday. Holmes comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
