Football Recap: Jesuit Skates Past University with Ease

Jesuit lost a heartbreaker the last time they played University, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Tigers really took it to the Titans for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-7 win. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Will Griffin, who threw for 217 yards and four touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (164.3). Kaleb Smith was another key player, picking up 92 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Jesuit's run defense was locked in: University could only muster 1.5 yards per carry. While five picked up at least one total tackle, Hezekiah Davis stood above the rest. He rushed for 68 yards and one score on only five carries. Jesuit didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.9.

Jesuit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Luke Battaglia, Jason McNeil, and Kam Housey picked up one apiece. McNeil is also crushing it when it comes to defended passes: he's defended at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Jesuit received some extra help from Macho Mendez, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Jesuit pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.3 points on average this season. As for University, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Jesuit wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 63-7 victory against Middleton on the 10th. As for University, they have also already played their next contest, a 35-0 loss against Spruce Creek on the 10th.
