Joe Bello spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eddie Rethorn, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Marco Aruta was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, while St. Joseph-by-the-Sea put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Archbishop Stepinac. The Vikings won by a run and slipped past the Crusaders 1-0. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past John Gano, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Archbishop Stepinac off the board.
On the hitting side, St. Joseph-by-the-Sea secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Randy Rivera, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
St. Peter's pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea, their record now sits at 22-3.
St. Peter's might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from St. Joseph-by-the-Sea in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
