Gorham is 7-2 against Westbrook since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Rams will face off against the Blue Blazes at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Westbrook will be up against a hot Gorham squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Rams were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Biddeford on Monday.
Bella McBrady made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. McBrady was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Terra Rioux, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Sawyer VonderHaar was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Gorham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .567 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Westbrook had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Everything went their way against the Hawks as they made off with an 11-4 win.
Madison Ross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Greta Krantz was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Anderson, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Gorham's record is now 10-3. As for Westbrook, their record now sits at 7-3.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gorham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Westbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gorham took their victory against Westbrook in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
