Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the University Trailblazers proved on Friday. They strolled past Muncie Burris with points to spare, taking the game 55-38. Given University's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Muncie Burris is ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
University's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Grubbs, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Grubbs. Another player making a difference was Keira Bright, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Muncie Burris lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Grace Murray, who scored four points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Murray. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Jackson, who scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals.
University has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Muncie Burris, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University will take on Mooresville Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mooresville Christian is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Muncie Burris won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Shenandoah at 1:00 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Shenandoah focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
