Southlake Carroll and Byron Nelson (ranked 69 and 53 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. Southlake Carroll took a hard 34-17 fall against Byron Nelson on Friday.
Southlake Carroll's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Graham Knowles, who rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown, and Jack Van Dorselaer who picked up 62 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge got the win against Keller Central on Thursday by a conclusive 35-10. The win was just what Fossil Ridge needed coming off of a 53-13 defeat in their prior matchup.
Logan Cundiff looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Fossil Ridge also got help from X'zavion Branch-duncan who showed off his sure hands for 89 receiving yards.
Byron Nelson's victory bumped their season record to 9-0 while Southlake Carroll's defeat dropped theirs to 8-1.
Everything came up roses for Southlake Carroll against Fossil Ridge in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 45-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Fossil Ridge's Landen Chambers, who rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 21 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Southlake Carroll to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
