Baseball Game Preview: Mayfield Wildcats vs. South Rebels

Mayfield has gone 8-2 against South recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Rebels at 4:30 p.m. Mayfield will be strutting in after a victory while South will be coming in after a defeat.

On Wednesday, Mayfield needed a bit of extra time to put away North. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Rangers 9-8. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Connor Mize looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Ben Koret was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Koret is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of JD Sega, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Mayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North only posted an OBP of .343.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, South was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of University School. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The victory got Mayfield back to even at 2-2. As for South, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Mayfield took their win against South in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-5 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
