The Freedom Patriots pushed their score all the way to 48 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Watauga 54-48. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Freedom in their matchups with Watauga: they've now lost eight in a row.
Watauga's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Everett Gryder, who rushed for 198 yards and four touchdowns. Maddox Greene was another key contributor, rushing for 178 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry.
Freedom's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Watauga, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Freedom will head out on the road to face off against Alexander Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Alexander Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Freedom likes a good challenge. As for Watauga, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ashe County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ashe County is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
