Softball Game Preview: First Academy Eagles vs. Hernando Christian Academy Lions

First Academy is 0-10 against Hernando Christian Academy since April of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The First Academy Eagles will challenge the Hernando Christian Academy Lions at 4:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

First Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Real Life Christian Academy on Thursday. They came up short against the Raptors, falling 11-1. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

First Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayleigh Collop, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Hernando Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on March 4th as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 31-5 to Real Life Christian Academy.

Piper Gill was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Gill is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

First Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Hernando Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Hernando Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. First Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Hernando Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 strikeouts. Will First Academy keep running through batters, or will Hernando Christian Academy buck the trend?

First Academy might still be hurting after the 17-3 defeat they got from Hernando Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can First Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
