Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends the Classical Academy's Winning Streak

The Classical Academy fought the good fight in their overtime game against Falcon on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Falcon Falcons 65-59. The Titans' loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Defeat or not, The Classical Academy got some senior leadership from Ky Walker and Burk Dorny. Walker posted 18 points and three steals, while Dorny went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points. Dorny is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. Carter Miller was another key player, putting up three points along with four steals and three blocks.

Even though they lost, The Classical Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Falcon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Cox, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 20 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Christian Bertholf, who put up ten points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Having lost for the first time this season, The Classical Academy fell to 9-1. As for Falcon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

The Classical Academy and Falcon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. The Classical Academy will face off against Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on January 21st up 282 places (43 vs. 325). The Classical Academy will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak dating back to last season alive. Meanwhile, Falcon (ranked 50th) will meet Pueblo County (ranked 208th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Classical Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.
