Lakeland is 0-10 against Coeur d'Alene since April of 2019 but things could change on Saturday. The Lakeland Hawks will venture away from home to challenge the Coeur d'Alene Vikings at 12:00 p.m.
Lakeland is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Lewiston.
Jace Taylor was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Taylor wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tadgh Ellwood, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Even though they lost, Lakeland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Coeur d'Alene had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They never let Ridgeline get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Tuesday.
Like Lakeland, Coeur d'Alene also got a great game from a two-way player: Will Beckenhauer. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Beckenhauer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Coeur d'Alene got a massive performance out of Kolbe Coey, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Tyler Voorhees, who scored four runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3.
Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Coeur d'Alene, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0.
Lakeland suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Coeur d'Alene in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Lakeland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
