Softball Recap: Westerly Starts Season with Win Against Fitch

Westerly had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Fitch Falcons by a score of 8-5. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 win the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Sophia Horton looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Bella Mazzarese was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Addison Poole was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI.

Westerly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Coming up, Westerly will head out to take on Coventry at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The game will give the Bulldogs their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Fitch, they will welcome St. Bernard at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
