The Beaumont Cougars suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Yucaipa by a score of 43-40. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Beaumont has scored all season.
Josiah Morgan and Vince tracy Capuras certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Morgan scored 13 points along with two steals, while Capuras scored ten points along with five steals. Morgan hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Adrian Farias was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Yucaipa was led to victory by Jaxon Lerma and Jonathan Campbell. Lerma scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, while Campbell dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Campbell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tristan Doty, who scored six points.
Beaumont's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Yucaipa, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-13.
Beaumont will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Citrus Valley at 6:45 p.m. Citrus Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 724th, while Beaumont is ranked 166th). As for Yucaipa, they will head out on the road to take on Redlands East Valley at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Redlands East Valley is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.
