The Glenelg Gladiators were the 54-43 winner over the Atholton Raiders when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Glenelg's rough 64-39 defeat to Atholton on Friday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Glenelg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Atholton is ranked 61st).
Atholton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Amir Shaheed out in front who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Deion Dent, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Glenelg dropped their record down to 6-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Atholton, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Glenelg will face off against Reservoir at TBD on Monday. Glenelg is facing Reservoir at the right time seeing as Reservoir is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Atholton, they will head out on the road to square off against Wilde Lake at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Wilde Lake knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Atholton likes a good challenge.
