Even though the Masuk Panthers have not done well against the Notre Dame Catholic Lancers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Masuk came out on top against Notre Dame Catholic by a score of 54-47. Given Masuk's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Notre Dame Catholic is ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Notre Dame Catholic's loss came despite strong showings from Kendra Mitacek and Madison Gibbs. Mitacek scored 18 points along with three steals, while Gibbs scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Masuk, bringing their record for this year to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Notre Dame Catholic, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-8.
Masuk will take on Law at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Notre Dame Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against New Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Fairfield will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
