Enloe hasn't had much luck against Cardinal Gibbons recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Enloe Eagles will face off against the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. Enloe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Enloe is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Wakefield on Friday. They lost 10-2 to the Wolverines.
Avery Modlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Enloe saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Thompson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Cardinal Gibbons made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Chapel Hill on Friday. Cardinal Gibbons blew past East Chapel Hill 15-1. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Bridget Mazzo, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophie Cygnarowicz, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Cardinal Gibbons hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Enloe's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Enloe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cardinal Gibbons struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
