The Freeburg Midgets will challenge the Herrin Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Freeburg took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Alton with a sharp 17-2 win.

Emylee Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Waeltz Aubrey was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Whitworth, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Freeburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Herrin sidestepped Johnston City for an 11-10 victory. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Reese Elliott and Gigi George did most of the damage at the plate: Elliott got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run, while George went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Elliott is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Branson Hill, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Freeburg is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Herrin, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-16.
Freeburg took their victory against Herrin in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Midgets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
