Starkville extended the longest winning streak in 6A Region 2 this week by beating Madison Central, 45-42. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Greenville-Weston lost to Columbus 37-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Jaguars' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Joseph Willis threw for 264 and 3 touchdowns and Keenan Barnes had 108 yards receiving. On the ground Trey Smith chipped in 161 yards. Gage McCartney helped Madison Central's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 69 yards.
He was 16-28 with 0 interceptions.
Smith was the best running back in the league this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 161 yards as Madison Central fell to Starkville. Jaylon Uzodinma also contributed to the rushing game with 14 yards on the ground.
Madison Central's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Jaguars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Willis has thrown for 1,562 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Barnes has 50 catches for 820 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Jaime Mitchell's team takes on Murrah. At the moment, the Yellowjackets are in first, while the Mustangs are in fifth.
There should be lots of points scored when Starkville and Murrah face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Yellowjackets comes in having scored 262 this season, while Zack Grady's team has scored 261. Starkville scored 45 points last week as it beat Bobby Hall's team.
The Yellowjackets led 6A Region 2 in scoring this week after putting up 45 points on the Jaguars. Princeton Jones threw for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 87 yards in the win.
