Lincoln North Star is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Grand Island, who was ranked eighth at the time (Lincoln North Star was ranked 25th). The Navigators lost 9-0 to the Islanders on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Navigators' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Lincoln East's hitters rose to the challenge against a SkyHawks pitching crew that boasted an average of only 2.77 runs allowed on Tuesday. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Skutt Catholic. Considering the Spartans have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Joey Senstock made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Carter McPeak was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since April 4th. Another player making a difference was Troy Peltz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Lincoln East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skutt Catholic only posted a batting average of .286.
Lincoln East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln North Star, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.
