Champlin Park has gone 7-2 against Rogers recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rebels are taking a road trip to square off against the Royals at 7:00 p.m. Champlin Park is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Champlin Park is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Minnesota's top teams: Maple Grove, who was ranked fifth at the time (Champlin Park was ranked eighth). The Rebels came out on top against the Crimson by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday.
The victory didn't come easy: Maple Grove scored at least 18 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Rogers hadn't done well against Wayzata recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Royals narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Trojans 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Rogers was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (111-109), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 26-24, 16-14.
Champlin Park better keep an eye on Caitlin Schmidt. She was instrumental in Rogers' win, getting 18 digs and two aces. Ava Hulett was another key player, getting 24 assists and four digs.
Rogers was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September.
Champlin Park's record is now 22-8. As for Rogers, their record now sits at 24-7.
Champlin Park beat Rogers 3-1 when the teams last played on October 14th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
