The Palm Beach Gardens Gators waltzed into their game Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They greeted the New Year with with a 47-30 win over Northwestern. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Palm Beach Gardens has scored all season.
Palm Beach Gardens got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alicia Russell out in front who scored 12 points along with five steals. The game was Russell's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyana Poitier, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Palm Beach Gardens' victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Palm Beach Gardens will be playing in front of their home fans against Cardinal Newman at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal Newman will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 365th, while Palm Beach Gardens is ranked 40th). Northwestern's road trip will continue as they head out to face Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 8th.
